A sheep project is particularly well adapted to the rural family home with a small plot of land or even to homes with large yards in suburban areas that permit animals. Market lamb projects are particularly desirable youth activities in many areas of New York State.

Annual NYS 4-H Livestock Skillathon Contest

AUDIENCE: Youth 5 to 19 years of age.

The New York State 4-H Sheep Achievement Award Program provides goals and rewards specifically designed for young New York sheep project members.

4-H Sheep Quiz Bowl Information

Sheep Bowl Stats: 49 youths participated in the 7th annual 4-H Sheep Fun Bowl. Many thanks go to Tom Davis of Orange County for moderating and Dr. Michael Thonney, Professor in the Department of Animal Science, for serving as official judge.

  • Patches and certificates corresponding to the various levels of achievement in the New York State 4-H Sheep Achievement Award Program.
  • The 4-H Sheep Skills for Life Series developed by the 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System (4-HCCS) is part of the national 4-H reviewed and recommended resource collection. Price ranges vary according to quantity. Orders made prior to May 1 receive discounts. The average price per book is approximately $3.30 each. The 4-HCCS website is located at: http://www.n4hccs.org/
