Beef Cowherd, V. 2. This computer program is used to match beef cowherd numbers and nutritional requirements with the forage produced on the farm. Results of analysis will tell operator if the size of the herd matches the available land base. The program can then be used to determine profitability of different forage and herd management strategies such as adding more cows, increasing soil fertility, changing calving season, etc.

Beef Cowherd V2 may be downloaded in the form of a self-extracting executable named cowherd.exe

It is a DOS program and will only run under Windows in an Ms-DOS window.

To install the program:
  1. Click Download Now to download.
    (in NN, right click and choose Save As)
    (in IE, left click and choose Save this file to disk)
  2. Make a note of where you choose to save the file.
  3. When download is complete, navigate to the directory containing the downloaded file.
  4. Double click on the downloaded file. It will extract out into the following directory if you do not specify a different directory.
    C:\unzipped\cowherd\

  5. Read the manual thoroughly before continuing.
  6. In Windows, go to "Start" and "Run". Click Browse to find the directory where your cowherd files are located.
  7. Click on "Cowherd.bat" and click "Open", then click "Ok".
  8. An MS-DOS window will open up and start the program.
