Domestic Animal Biology II

Lectures: M W F 9:05
Lab: T W or R 2:00-4:25.
Second of a two-semester sequence (100/150) applying the basic biology of growth, defense mechanisms, reproduction, and lactation to aspects of the production and care of domestic animals. Fresh tissues and organs from dead animals along with preserved specimens will be used in laboratories, exercises, and demonstrations. Students will maintain and collect data from a colony of Janapese quail.
Grading
The final grades will be determined from the following compontents:
- Labs and associated exercises (e.g. quail project written assignments) - 25 percent
- Two prelim exams in lecture- 40 percent
- A term paper and oral report (complete details will be provided later) will be worth 15 percent of the aggregate. Deadlines for completing parts of this exercise will be enforced.
- The final examination will be worth 20 percent of the course total, will integrate material and concepts over the entire course, but will emphasize material covered after the prelim. To include: Reproduction/Lactation interactions; Reproduction/Growth interactions; Muscle essay; quiz credit from student presentations.
