Sex Linkage

In chickens, "barring" is a pattern of feather coloring that was useful in sexing young chicks. The locus for barring is on the sex chromosome, Z. The allele B produces the barred phenotype and b does not ( B > b ). Barred chicks can be identified by a white spot on the head in dark color feathered birds.

From the following matings determine the ratio in progeny :

Choose mating:

ZBW x ZbZb

ZbW x ZBZB

ZBW x ZBZb

  Barred female

  Non-barred female

  Barred male

  Non-barred male
