Class ewe care
Class ewe production
|
Students will work in groups of 3 to feed and care for ewes at 8 am and 5 pm and to check for newborn lambs at noon, 8 pm, and 11 pm.
- Each student will sign up for 3 to 4 chore times, preferably with at least one at 8 am and at least one at 5 pm.
- Each student will sign up for 3 to 4 lambing checks in addition to the 3 chore times.
- A combination of 8 chore times and lambing checks is required to obtain full credit.
Each ewe will be assigned to three students. The students will be the class "owners" of the ewe and her lambs for the semester. When the ewe lambs or starts to lamb, the owners will be called to take care of the ewe and her newborn lambs.
Here are three excellent pages on lambing management:
- Assisting the ewe at lambing (Ontario Min. of Ag. fact sheet)
- Care of the newborn lamb (Ontario Min. of Ag. fact sheet)
- Treating newborn lambs with hypothermia (Ontario Min. of Ag. fact sheet)
