About

Lineage was developed by JP Pollak and Kevin Egan. The development of Lineage began in order to serve the specific needs of a few researchers working with large and complicated pedigrees. Existing software packages were too difficult to use and were simply unable to organize and display the pedigree information in a way that was easy to analyze and comprehend. We were certain that through working closely with these researchers, given JP's knowledge of information visualization and software usability and Kevin's technical programming ability, we would be able to provide a far better solution.

Soon after the first prototypes of Lineage were running, it became obvious that the software had the potential to make an important contribution to the industry as a whole. We wanted to provide a simple yet powerful solution, one that would serve anyone from a dog breeder to a researcher in a human genomics lab. With development of the first two version completed, we are pleased and satisfied that all of our goals have been met. From this point forward, our commitment is to completing the Genomics Edition and to serve the newly forming community of users with information and updates as necessary so that Lineage can help as many people as we know it can.

We would like to thank Dr. John Pollak for providing us with much of the direction with regard to the types of practical applications researchers would be using the software and what types of features and functions would be of use to them. We would also like to thank Yamini Raman for her help in some technical aspects of the development. Finally, we would like to thank all those involved in the beta testing of Lineage for helping us to make as solid a product as possible.
