PLEASE NOTE:
"Poisonous" does not mean deadly. Some manifestations of toxicity are subtle. The dose, as always, determines if a plant is safe source of nutrients or a toxic hazard.

BRIEF: Is my tree poisonous?

QUESTION:
We have a nice big green tree that has pretty white flowers on it. My neighbor says its a holliander tree, and that it is poisonous. Is she right?

ANSWER:

Do you mean Oleander? If so, your neighbor is right, it is quite poisonous. Probably why it is so popular as an ornamental...few pests survive if they try to eat it and it is drought resistant, too. Be sure to educate any children and restrain any animals about this tree, it can stop a heart with a few leaves.
