Dairy Environmental Systems
- Dairy Facilities/Environmental Management Engineering Program
The PRO-DAIRY dairy facilities and waste management program is responsible for identifying, developing, documenting, and introducing innovative methods in dairy housing and waste management systems that will enhance animal performance, well-being, efficiency, environmental compliance, and overall farm profitability. This is performed by conducting applied research programs with objectives to further the understanding and development of dairy housing and waste management systems and by monitoring relative research and extension work performed by nation-wide counterparts. Findings are disseminated by conducting on-farm training and demonstrations of new technologies and by developing written, oral, and web-based materials - Nutrient/CAFO/Environmental Management Program
One of the main functions of the PRO-DAIRY Nutrient/CAFO/ Environmental Management Program is to work with the NY dairy industry to identify and answer pressing, current nutrient and environmental management related questions. - On-Farm Environmental Management Program
The On-Farm Environmental Management Program has three components. They are: - Support the NYS Agricultural Environmental Management (AEM) Program;
- Issues and Policies in Managing Manure on New York Dairy Farms;
- Improving Capacity for Farms to Address Neighbor/Community Concerns.
- Integrated Dairy Waste Management
Provide leadership and support in the development and delivery of educational programs to New York State dairy producers and agri-service providers which focus on dairy waste management as it relates to reduced environmental risk and use of co-products. A major programmatic goal is the development, documentation and demonstration of advanced manure treatment and handling methods for New York State dairy farms to allow them to effectively and economically implement their nutrient management plans.
