PRO-DAIRY's Dairy Youth Program

Current Responsibilities and Interests:

As part of the Dairy Management Group and PRO-DAIRY team in the Animal Science Department, Cornell Univeristy, Debbie provides leadership for developing, coordinating, and implementing dairy youth outreach programs. She also represents State 4-H Dairy programming with the my primary audiences being youth between the ages of 13 and 19.

The Dairy industry is a viable, profitable and progressive business sector young people can look to for career opportunities. My focus will be on developing programs for youth to realize the magnitude of career opportunities in the dairy industry and to give them opportunity to experience some of those careers. Adding to the programs, youth will be enhanced to develop their own personal and professional skills. Youth will learn technical skills and knowledge in the areas of veterinary science, dairy nutrition, and production management. Tours, discussions, and experiential learning are key objectives to the programs. The goal with these programs will help prepare young people for employment as managers, technicians, and other agriservice and professional careers in the dairy industry.

Debbie is also the director of the New York State Junior Dairy Leader Program which is an innovative and merit award program designed for youth between the ages of 16 to 19 who have an interest in learning about careers in the dairy industry.
