Classroom Instruction

A two credit hour course on the taxonomy, natural history, care, maintenance, and captive breeding of birds of prey and psittacines (parrots and related species) will be offered by the Department of Animal Science during the Fall Semester (AnSc 215, Exotic Avian Husbandry and Captive Propagation). The course is team-taught by faculty with expertise in raptor husbandry and captive breeding and covers a broad range of topics from basic avian physiology to taxonomy and natural history, veterinary care, raptor husbandry, and captive breeding techniques. Lectures, demonstrations, and field trips are used to provide students with an appreciation for avian husbandry in general and special factors related to raptors and psittacines.
