Winter grazing ewes
15 April 2009 - Pregnant ewes grazing winter rye planted in a corn field harvested for silage in September 2008. Ewes already grazed the area on the left side of the fence. Also shown is the battery and charger for the Eletronet fence; which is used to keep the sheep in and the coyotes out. The pitchfork is being used to demonstrate proper grounding techniques for the charger.

Abundant rainfall for forage production and a large population consuming sheep products in the eastern United States makes this area an ideal location for sheep farming. This and the companion web site about marketing (http://www.sheepgoatmarketing.info/) are designed to help farmers take advantage of the opportunity to develop or expand sheep farms in the region.
